Band 6.0 Sample Answer

Deforestation is a big problem in many countries. Some people think that cutting down trees is good for the economy, but others say it is bad for the environment. I agree with the second opinion.

On one hand, deforestation can help the economy. For example, trees can be sold for wood, and the land can be used for farming or building houses. This can create jobs and make money for the country. In Brazil, many people work in the logging industry, and the government earns money from selling wood. So, deforestation can be good for the economy.

On the other hand, deforestation can cause serious environmental problems. Trees are important because they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. If we cut down too many trees, the air will become dirty, and the climate will change. Also, animals and plants that live in the forests will lose their homes and may die. In Indonesia, many forests have been cut down, and now there are fewer animals like orangutans and tigers. So, deforestation can be bad for the environment.

In my opinion, the bad effects of deforestation are worse than the good effects. We need trees to live, and we should not cut them down just to make money. The government should make laws to protect the forests and find other ways to help the economy.
