Prompt

Some people think that creativity is more important than knowledge in today's world. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Band 6.5 Sample Answer

The idea that creativity is more important than knowledge is a controversial one which has been discussed. Personally, I disagree with this opinion.

In many fields, knowledge is essential. For example, in medicine, doctors must have deep knowledge of human biology to treat patients effectively. Without this knowledge, creativity would be useless. Even in art, which is considered a creative field, artists need to understand techniques and principles before they can create something new.

Moreover, knowledge provides the foundation for creativity. Before someone can be creative, they need to know about the subject. For instance, a writer needs to know about literature and language to create a good story. Without this knowledge, their creativity would be limited.

On the other hand, some people argue that creativity is more important because it allows us to solve problems in new ways. While this is true, it does not mean that creativity is more important than knowledge. They are two sides of the same coin.

In conclusion, although creativity is important, knowledge is the basis of all creative work. Therefore, I believe that knowledge is more important than creativity.
