The impact of automation and AI on employment is a contentious issue. On one hand, proponents argue that these technologies will generate new job opportunities. For instance, the rise of automation in manufacturing has led to increased demand for technicians to maintain and repair machines. Similarly, AI has created roles in data analysis and software development. Moreover, automation can enhance productivity, potentially leading to economic growth and more jobs across various sectors.

On the other hand, critics contend that automation will result in job losses. Many routine and repetitive jobs, such as assembly line work and data entry, are at risk of being automated. According to a 2023 report by the World Economic Forum, up to 85 million jobs could be displaced by 2025 due to automation. Furthermore, the transition to an automated workforce may leave many workers unemployed for extended periods, exacerbating income inequality.

In my view, while automation will undoubtedly displace some jobs, it will also create new ones. The key is to invest in education and retraining programs to help workers adapt to the changing job market. Governments and businesses must collaborate to ensure a smooth transition, minimizing the negative impacts on employment.
