Use templates as light support for the new TOEFL Speaking format. The goal is accurate repetition and natural interview answers, not memorised old scripts.
TOEFL Speaking templates should match the new format. For Listen and Repeat, the template is a listening routine: catch the meaning, split the sentence into sound groups, keep final consonants clear, and repeat the exact words. Do not paraphrase.
For Take an Interview, use a flexible answer frame: answer directly, give one specific example, then explain why it matters. This sounds more natural than memorised old Independent Speaking scripts and is easier for AI feedback to diagnose.
For tests from January 21, 2026 onward, TOEFL iBT Speaking uses Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview task types, with 11 speaking items in about 8 minutes.
