Quick answer

Reading and writing warm-up for DET practice

Try these two short language activities before choosing a full practice set.

How to try it: Read the notice, choose the supported answer, then write your own response to the second prompt before opening the self-check.

  1. 1. Reading for a contrast

The museum is closing its main gallery for repairs this week. The sculpture garden will remain open, and visitors can enter it through the east gate.

Which statement is supported by the notice?

    • A. All parts of the museum are closed.
    • B. Visitors can still enter the sculpture garden.
    • C. Repairs to the main gallery have finished.

Answer or self-check: B. Visitors can still enter the sculpture garden.

Why: The main gallery is closing, but the garden remains open. The east gate provides access to the garden during the repairs.

  2. 2. Writing with a reason and example

Describe one place in your town that you would improve. Explain the change you would make and give a specific example of how it would help people.

Answer or self-check: Self-check: identify the place and the proposed change, explain why the change matters, and include one concrete example. Different suggestions can answer the prompt successfully.

Why: A clear proposal, a reason and a relevant example connect your ideas. Check that each sentence develops the same proposal rather than listing unrelated improvements.

How to use your result

The reading answer and writing self-check are learning exercises. They do not convert to a Duolingo English Test score or assess your overall proficiency.

Source and originality

These are original English AIdol language exercises, written independently rather than reproduced from official or secure Duolingo test questions. Check the format context at Duolingo English Test scoring.

Choose a practice set

Open the Duolingo English Test practice library to choose a set and practise with audio, images, writing and speaking activities. Timed rehearsal helps you organise a response; it does not reproduce the official adaptive test.

Use feedback for revision

Review the answer evidence and the suggestions for your writing or recording. Practice points and AI feedback are unofficial study guidance, not certified Duolingo results or a guarantee of a test-day score. English AIdol is an independent learning service and is not affiliated with Duolingo.
