PTE Academic Fees, Booking, Format and ID Guide (2026)

Pearson’s public PTE Academic price selector showed AUD 499 for Australia and USD 240 for the Philippines on 22 September 2026. Those are dated observations, not guaranteed future prices. Confirm the current amount and currency with Pearson before paying. Check the official selector.

This guide covers PTE Academic. Confirm the exact test required by your receiving organisation before choosing an appointment. PTE Academic UKVI, PTE Core and PTE Home have distinct purposes and may have different booking or ID requirements.

How to check the price yourself

1. Open Pearson’s PTE Academic page and find the country price selector near the top.
2. Select the country where you will sit the test. This is your testing location, not your intended study destination.
3. Read the amount and currency, then check appointment availability. You do not need to complete a booking just to use the public selector.

The Philippines selection displayed US dollars. A peso conversion in a search result is not the amount shown in Pearson’s selector. For budgeting, ask your payment provider about its conversion rate and any applicable charges. Pearson requires full payment in the specified currency; its payment policy also explains accepted methods and voucher restrictions.

Keep travel, preparation purchases and payment-provider costs separate from the test fee in your own budget. Before confirming an order, read its final total and any tax details. The public selector check did not verify an individual checkout, discounts or a future appointment price.

How to book PTE Academic

The sequence below follows Pearson’s published booking guide; screen labels can change.

1. Choose the correct test. Use Pearson’s test finder and check your receiving organisation’s requirement.
2. Find an appointment. Search your preferred location, then select a centre, date and time. Pearson’s guide specifies booking at least 24 hours ahead.
3. Use your myPTE account. Create an account or sign in. Enter personal details to match your accepted ID, including middle names where applicable.
4. Review before payment. Check the test type, centre, date, personal details, displayed currency and total. Read the admission, change and cancellation conditions.
5. Complete and save. Submit payment only when the details are correct. Check your myPTE appointment and confirmation email, and save the instructions.

If a detail is wrong, resolve it before paying. After booking, use Pearson’s support and account guidance promptly; do not assume staff can fix a name or document problem on test day.

Current PTE Academic exam structure

The test uses a computer and has three parts. These are the section ranges and question-type counts displayed on Pearson’s current format pages. A count of question types is not the number of questions you will answer.

Two speaking tasks to include in your preparation are Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation. For the first, you hear three people and explain their discussion in your own words. For the second, respond appropriately to a described situation. The personal introduction is for familiarisation and does not contribute to the score. See the current speaking tasks.

Listening recordings play once, and note-taking is allowed. Practise capturing meaning while the audio runs rather than relying on replay. See the listening instructions.

Use the current task pages when choosing practice materials. A resource that omits these speaking tasks is incomplete for this format. Plan your travel around the appointment instructions; the section ranges above are not an arrival or collection timetable.

Accepted ID: check both citizenship and test location

A valid passport is the usual PTE Academic ID. Pearson requires the same document selected at booking, a physical document rather than a copy, current validity, issue within the previous ten years, Roman-character personal details and a photograph matching your appearance. Your booking name, date of birth, citizenship and gender must match. Failure to present accepted ID can mean refusal of entry and loss of the fee. Pearson: Identification policy.

Do not apply a blanket “passport only abroad” rule without checking the exceptions. Pearson’s general page says a passport is required outside your country of citizenship, but its linked country and region exceptions PDF gives more specific provisions:

• Philippine citizen testing in the Philippines: if you lack a valid passport, listed alternatives include a Philippine driver’s licence, military ID, national ID, SSS ID, UMID or PRC ID. Required Roman-character name, birth date, signature and matching photograph must be present; a second ID must supply missing required details.
• EU/Schengen citizen testing within the EU/Schengen region: the list permits a valid national identity card if you do not have a valid passport, including when testing in another country in that region.
• Testing in Australia: the list contains no general Australian alternative-ID exception. Plan to use your valid passport; do not assume a local driving licence is accepted.

These examples concern PTE Academic, not a universal rule for every PTE test. For an unclear document case, obtain guidance from Pearson before booking. Its ID policy has a specific pre-booking support route for immigrants, refugees and stateless people unable to provide an allowed document. Check the full ID policy.

Rescheduling and cancellation: read the boundary carefully

Pearson’s dedicated policy, updated 17 September 2026, gives these detailed rules:

Source conflict: the policy introduction suggests free changes with at least 14 days, whereas its detailed rules require more than 14. Its middle refund band also overlaps day 7, which the next rule explicitly makes non-refundable. The table follows the detailed restrictions; confirm a boundary case with Pearson before acting.

Medical or family emergencies are considered individually, not automatically refunded. Voucher payments have separate restrictions: Pearson says they cannot be refunded. Read the payment policy.

A worked planning example

Imagine a learner choosing between a nearby morning appointment and an afternoon appointment that requires a long journey. The sensible comparison includes travel reliability, time away from work and whether either date leaves enough room before the learner’s application deadline. The cheapest travel ticket is not useful if its arrival depends on a connection that regularly feels too tight for that learner.

In the planner, the learner records the fee in the currency Pearson displays, adds travel separately, and leaves the application deadline visible. They then write one unresolved question: “Will my accepted ID be available on that date?” If the document is away for another application, the learner resolves that issue before choosing either appointment. This example illustrates planning; it does not predict test results, document acceptance or appointment availability.

Before paying: a final five-point check

• Purpose: I have checked the receiving organisation’s test requirement rather than choosing from a familiar test name.
• Logistics: I can reach the selected centre and have read the appointment instructions.
• Money: I have recorded the displayed currency and final amount, and kept optional expenses separate.
• Identity: I have resolved any uncertainty about my document and the account details that accompany it.
• Preparation: I know which current task type needs my next practice session, and I have saved my booking confirmation after purchase.
