Model Answers with Scoring Breakdown

Band 6.0 Answer

Sample Answer:

Remote work is becoming very common these days. There are good and bad points about this.

On the positive side, people can save time because they do not need to travel to work. They can also spend more time with their families. Additionally, companies can save money on office space. However, there are some problems. Some people find it difficult to concentrate at home because there are many distractions. Also, not everyone has a good internet connection or a comfortable workspace at home. In my opinion, remote work is beneficial but only if people have the right conditions.

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Task Response: Band 6 (Presents a clear position but with some limitations in development)
  • Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6 (Uses some cohesive devices but with some redundancy and occasional lack of clarity)
  • Lexical Resource: Band 6 (Uses a mix of appropriate but limited vocabulary with some errors in word choice)
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6 (Attempts complex sentences but with frequent errors and some awkward phrasing)

Band 7.0 Answer

Sample Answer:

The trend of working from home has seen significant growth in recent years. This shift has its merits and demerits, which need to be examined.

To begin with, remote work offers several advantages. Employees can avoid long commutes, which saves time and reduces stress. Moreover, they can maintain a better work-life balance by spending more time with their families. For employers, the reduction in office space requirements can lead to substantial cost savings. However, there are some downsides. Home environments can be filled with distractions, making it challenging for some individuals to focus on their work. Additionally, not all employees have access to high-speed internet or an ergonomic workspace at home. In my view, while remote work is advantageous, it is not suitable for everyone due to these issues.

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Task Response: Band 7 (Presents a clear position with relevant, extended ideas)
  • Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7 (Uses a mix of cohesive devices effectively but with some redundancy and occasional lack of clarity)
  • Lexical Resource: Band 7 (Uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some less common lexical items but with occasional errors in word choice)
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7 (Attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms but with frequent errors and some awkward phrasing)

Band 8.0 Answer

Sample Answer:

The phenomenon of working from home has gained significant traction in recent years, driven by advancements in technology and a shift in corporate policies. This trend presents both benefits and drawbacks, which warrant a thorough examination.

On the positive side, remote work offers numerous advantages. Employees can eliminate the need for daily commutes, which not only saves time but also reduces their carbon footprint. Furthermore, the flexibility of remote work allows individuals to better manage their personal and professional responsibilities, leading to improved work-life balance. From an employer's perspective, the reduction in office space requirements can result in substantial cost savings. However, there are some notable challenges. The home environment can be rife with distractions, making it difficult for some employees to maintain productivity. Additionally, not all individuals have access to the necessary infrastructure, such as high-speed internet or a dedicated workspace, which can hinder their ability to work effectively from home. In my opinion, while remote work offers significant benefits, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution and requires careful consideration of individual circumstances.

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Task Response: Band 8 (Presents a clear position with relevant, extended ideas and supports them with explanations)
  • Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8 (Uses a mix of cohesive devices effectively but with some redundancy and occasional lack of clarity)
  • Lexical Resource: Band 8 (Uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some less common lexical items but with occasional errors in word choice)
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 8 (Attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms but with frequent errors and some awkward phrasing)

Band 9.0 Answer

Sample Answer:

The proliferation of remote work in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable, driven by technological advancements and evolving corporate policies. This shift has engendered a plethora of benefits, albeit with some notable drawbacks.

On the positive side, remote work offers a myriad of advantages. Employees can circumvent the necessity of daily commutes, thereby conserving time and mitigating their environmental impact. Moreover, the flexibility inherent in remote work enables individuals to better harmonize their personal and professional obligations, fostering an improved work-life balance. From a corporate standpoint, the diminishment of office space requirements can yield substantial economic benefits. However, there are some significant challenges. The domestic environment can be replete with distractions, posing a formidable obstacle to maintaining productivity. Additionally, not all employees possess the requisite infrastructure, such as high-speed internet access or an ergonomic workspace, which can impede their efficacy in a remote setting. In my view, while remote work confers significant advantages, it is not a panacea and necessitates a nuanced approach that takes into account individual circumstances and organizational needs.
